Original Creation

Tornado stars

Voy Kay 17 Mar 2020

With Corona in the country, the missus needs to work from home obligatory, meaning that my study is fully occupied now during the day. That same study that I use for my painting and following Bob Ross's tutorials .... SIGH!
So needed to move to the living room where I can only paint from a picture or my imagination. This painting is a combination of both and this one, I called 'Tornado stars'.
Very few colors were used for this creation (canvas was a 12"x12"), black gesso and liquid clear to start with, then covered it with phtalo blue and phtalo green. Tornado's (they were really unintended at first!!!) were done with Titanium white, the stars with liquid white. All the foreground trees had a rich mixture of VDBrown and ivory black. Painting was completed in 40 minutes and what I definitely want to remember is how to paint tornados since I intend to use that again some day. Please enjoy!

Voy, you'll be surprised just 2 weeks ago I was researching photos on the net to select tornado scene. I picked 2 different but laziness stopped me from painting... I think texture you got on your tornadoes is also good for the fur on animals.
I am sure you guys can paint together now after working hours. I find working from home the most challenging process. I wish your wife to get through this challenge easily.

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

Dear Sunnylady, somehow working from home is a blessing (no commuting which saves her about two hours) yet also a curse since i cannot play any music and need to be careful with gardening and renovating noises. Luckely she only does that two days a week but now, it is a full week for several weeks.
She is very afraid to paint herself since she is overwhelmed with my work (not only Bob Ross stuff!) and with our daughters. She has no artistic background whatsoever and even when I try to encourage her, I end up talking to a wall! Ah well, who knows what the future might bring in the field of motivation and inspiration.

Concerning the tornados, that really happened by accident where I should not have used a wave brush. But when I spotted that effect, I continued with it and made a fantasy painting of it. Soon, I will make another tornado painting since they are fascinating. Personally, I witnessed four tornados already myslef (three in Canada, one in Peru (at 4.500 meters altitude!)). It is my intention to paint that one from Peru, since it was in the flanks of Misty (old vulcano near Arequipa) and really came out of the blue, luckely without too much harm or damage in the end.
And yes, I have a project running for painting a wolf (my daughters' favourite animal (next to our two tomcats!)) and believe this technique will be the right one.
So much ideas going on yet soon painting season will end for me since my roof will be renovated end of this week AND my grocery garden and greenhouse really demand a lot of attention from now on till October.
Till soon!!

Happy gardening and renovating!
